Light on Leadership
You don’t get to control the future, but you do get to plan for it!
Welcome to Light on Leadership! In under two minutes, our newsletter delivers one book recommendation, one leadership action step, and two leadership tips. We know you're busy, so we've designed this content to be both useful and shareable. Enjoy!
What are we reading? The Leader's Greatest Return: Attracting, Developing, and Multiplying Leaders.
John Maxwell
John Maxwell has written extensively about leadership and what it truly means to be a leader. In the introduction section of this book, he provides an overview of what he believes to be four fundamental areas needed for leadership development. One of the areas consistently reinforced is the fact that leadership is not easy. We know this is true, but it is also very rewarding!
We have the opportunity each day to intentionally shape our team and organization's culture. This happens most effectively through our actions, not our words. It requires dedicated time for reflection and future planning. Consider this: How would your organization manage if you were absent for two weeks? What about six months? Do you have capable leaders ready to take on your responsibilities? In large organizations this challenge might be easier to overcome, but what if your company only consists of three people? Regardless of the size of your organization, proper planning and development of the leadership skills within each person will benefit the long-term success of your team. Create a culture of continuous improvement and don’t be afraid to give those around you the opportunity to grow and improve.
Action Step
You don’t get to control the future, but you do get to plan for it. Take time to plan for the unexpected.
