What are we reading? Multipliers: How the Best Leaders Make Everyone Smarter.
Liz Wiseman

In the opening chapter, "The Multiplier Effect," Wiseman outlines research she conducted centered around the idea of why some leaders can successfully grow those within their organization while others hinder the development of their team members. From a leadership perspective, this chapter will provide you with insights and research into what exactly it means to be a multiplier. After reading this chapter, take time to reflect on your leadership behaviors.

As leaders, when we help those around us grow, everyone benefits. The increased capacity of individuals enhances the capabilities of both team and organization. While many factors shape the culture needed for organizational growth, the leader's attitude and passion are paramount. It's easy to "preach" growth, but do you truly believe in it and—most importantly—model this behavior? Have you maintained focus on your own growth during your journey to the "top" of your organization? Do you prioritize reading, reflection, and learning?

Action Step

Regardless of your position, you must continue learning and seeking advice from trusted mentors. No one lives long enough to "know it all."

Two Tips

"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader."

-John Quincy Adams

“When leaders teach, they invest in their people’s ability to solve and avoid problems in the future.”
