Light on Leadership
Who’s Next?
Welcome to Light on Leadership! In under two minutes, our newsletter delivers one book recommendation, one leadership action step, and two leadership tips. We know you're busy, so we've designed this content to be both useful and shareable. Enjoy!
Helen Keller once wrote, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” Building the right team is one of leadership’s most important responsibilities, and as John Maxwell reminds us, leadership is not easy but deeply rewarding. Each day we shape our organization’s culture through our actions, not just our words, and that culture is ultimately defined by the people we invite onto our team, the work we do, and how intentionally we develop them.
Ask yourself this question: How would your organization function if you were gone for two weeks or six months? This reflection is less about absence and more about preparation. Strong organizations are built on shared leadership, where individuals feel empowered, trusted, and prepared to step forward when opportunities or challenges arise.
Intentional hiring plays a critical role in this process. When leaders ask culture centered questions, explore how candidates respond to feedback, and look for evidence of collaboration and a growth mindset, they are not just filling vacancies but building culture and strengthening capacity. The time invested at the front end helps prevent future problems.
Ultimately, leadership development is future planning. While we cannot control every circumstance ahead, we can create cultures of continuous improvement where people are encouraged to grow, take on responsibility, and learn through experience. When leaders invest in people and provide opportunities for growth, they ensure their organization is strengthened by many rather than dependent on one!
👉 Quick Action Step:
Reflect on your last hiring decision.
Which questions helped you truly understand the candidate’s mindset, coachability, and attitude?
Commit to adding one intentional question to your next interview that better reveals how a candidate learns, grows, and works with others.

Two Tips
This short clip highlights a powerful reminder that effective leadership is less about doing everything and more about focusing on what matters most. As you watch, consider how clarity, priorities, and intentional decision-making shape not only your leadership but also the culture of your team.
“A leader’s lasting value is measured by succession.”
