What are we reading? Water The Bamboo: Unleashing The Potential Of Teams And Individuals.

- by Greg Bell

Stop and smell the roses." Despite its simplicity, this advice is often overlooked as we get caught up in constant "doing." The first chapter of this book suggests that people don't usually become unhappy due to a lack of recognition or financial success. Instead, unhappiness stems from losing focus on what truly matters and spending time chasing misaligned goals.

When setting goals, it's essential to remember that our strengths can sometimes become our weaknesses. For instance, a highly motivated, successful leader might have a "Type A" personality, marked by competitiveness, a focus on results, and self-control. This personality type can lead to burnout and excessive stress. While we can't change our personalities, we can make a conscious effort to improve daily. The "Type A" leader focused on staying busy should intentionally schedule time to express appreciation to others. In doing so, they not only make others feel valued but also enrich their own life. “Stop and smell the roses!”

Action Step

Stay focused on your goals and strive for success. Just make sure that taking care of yourself is among those goals!

Two Tips

“It does not matter how slowly you go so long as you do not stop.”

– Confucius
