Leadership Book Recommendation: The Better Boss Blueprint. Live and Lead with No Regrets. - Shani Magosky
Two Questions
Is it OK to be a "stressed-out" leader?
The absence of stress is not the goal for any of us. We need a certain amount of stress and activity in our lives to add meaning and growth to our daily journey. The key is how we frame and respond to the stressors we face. Just as a world-class athlete must maintain their body, mind, and spirit to perform at their peak, we too must continuously invest in ourselves.
The great thing about leadership is the opportunity to impact others' lives each day. This impact can be positive or negative. When a leader is consistently impatient, angry, and tired, their team eventually fails. When leaders don't invest in their own self-care, they're soon replaced!
Do you allow others to fail forward?
"I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." In this quote from Thomas Edison, we are reminded that failing forward is all about having a positive mindset and a positive outlook on what we do each day. As a leader, how do you create a culture and environment that truly supports a growth mindset? As we are reminded in the book The Better Boss Blueprint, there's a clear difference between honest mistakes and failures caused by apathy and a poor attitude. We want our teams and organizations to embrace the attitude of innovation, but if someone is continuing to fall short of expectations due to a poor attitude and lack of effort, this is a different situation. Creating a culture of learning through failure always requires holding others accountable.
