Two Questions

How does social media impact your leadership?

Social media and technology impact our lives in both positive and negative ways. On the positive side, we can communicate with many people quickly to share our vision, advertise products, and work in a mobile environment far more effectively than we could twenty years ago. However, this mass communication is a two-way street. Anyone with a negative opinion about you or your organization can share their message with millions in seconds. Despite this, don't let negative feedback on social media deter you from making tough decisions that benefit your organization. Stay focused on what truly matters. Remember, the loudest voice isn't always the right one.

Why do your team members lie to you?

Leaders often overlook the importance of creating an environment where everyone feels safe to share ideas when seeking meaningful feedback. Effective communication is closely tied to Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. While leadership is undoubtedly challenging, we sometimes make it harder by rushing the trust-building process. At the base of Maslow's pyramid are physiological needs—the basics for human survival—followed by safety needs. It's in this area that we should focus on creating an environment where team members feel secure enough to voice their fears and concerns during any change process.

Don't shortcut trust-building. The time invested in connecting with your team and developing genuine relationships will foster a culture of collaboration and trust.
