Two Questions
What can we learn from an ice cube?
When an ice cube begins to melt, it's the result of a persistent effort that causes change. To an outside observer, it may appear to happen instantly, but it's actually the outcome of continuous work. Breakthrough moments require time and persistence, yet our world is impatient, and technological advances have increased this problem. As a leader, patience isn't just a virtue—it's a necessity. Success isn't an overnight phenomenon; it takes time and involves many disappointments and failures. How would your day change if you spent as much time reflecting on your daily accomplishments as you do worrying about what others might see as failures? Remember, like the melting ice cube, focus on one degree at a time—small, consistent efforts make the difference.
How can texting yourself improve your leadership?
"Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards." How does this famous quote relate to effective leadership? What happens when you live life forward without taking time to reflect on your past decisions? Without reflection, we don't learn from our past. For leaders, taking time to reflect is one of the most crucial leadership activities. It's essential to routinely set aside time to think about our actions as leaders and what we want to change in the future. Reflection gives each of us the opportunity to understand our mistakes and continue to grow in our leadership journey.
Try this. Twice a week send yourself a text message. Focus on what is going well and what you want to improve. After a month go back and review your self-notes. This will be powerful.
