Light on Leadership 2+2+2
Leadership Is An Art
Our goal for the Light on Leadership newsletter is to provide you with two questions and two thoughts in less than two minutes. We know you are busy leaders, so we hope this content is something you can use and share with others! Enjoy.
Two Questions
Are you an effective leader?
Understanding leadership can be complex as it means something different to each person, involves conflict, and should be viewed more as a blessing than a burden. Have you considered how you gauge your leadership effectiveness? Is it about profit, salary, and recognition? Or is the real measure about influencing others?
Whether it's a business, sports team, school, or church, has your work made the organization better? During your tenure, have you helped others learn, grow, and reach their potential?
Remember to give forward. Someone positively impacted your life and provided opportunities. Who can you extend the same favor to today?
Is there an “I” in team?
Most would agree that being part of an outstanding group is better than a group of outstanding individuals. However, the counterargument might be that a group of outstanding individuals has greater potential to achieve greatness but is still a "work in progress". There are many examples in sports where the addition of one or two players has pushed a team over the top to a championship. Is it because these additions made the group outstanding, or did the addition of outstanding individuals impact the outcome?
Take time to evaluate what structures within your organization prevent trust-building. Are there obstacles in place that work against the trust-building process?
