Light on Leadership 2+2+2
Have you made an impact?
Our goal for the Light on Leadership newsletter is to provide you with two questions and two thoughts in less than two minutes. We know you are busy leaders, so we hope this content is something you can use and share with others! Enjoy.
Two Questions
The power of gratitude.
Improving the climate and culture within your organization doesn't always require costly investments in surveys, training sessions, or the latest morale-boosting initiatives. There are two free and potentially more impactful steps you can take.
The first is simply expressing gratitude to those around you. This may seem like a small gesture but consider how it feels when someone thanks you for your daily efforts.
The second is public recognition of others through awards. Regardless of the simplicity of the award, publicly acknowledging the outstanding work and attitudes of team members can have a positive effect.
How do you define success?
Culture, trust, teamwork, and mission are four concepts of leadership referenced in millions of leadership books and articles. However, if these are so common, why is it so easy to lose focus on these areas?
What is your focus? Short-term wins or long-term success? When thinking about your decision-making and planning as a leader, what drives you? In the hectic and unpredictable daily schedule, your tendency is likely to address the most pressing short-term issues and then move on to the next. While in some cases this approach is unavoidable, in many cases we would be much better off thinking about the long-term impact of these decisions. Your core beliefs, mission statement, and vision statement can be "feel-good" statements you create and hang on the wall, or they can be true reminders of what is important and guide the long-term success of your organization.
How do you define success? If you can't answer this question, then someone else is defining it for you.
Two Thoughts
What can you control?
Influence not leadership.
