What can we control?

Bad things happen, but thankfully, so do good things. Effective leaders understand how important it is to maintain a positive attitude. Not every day is our best day – but those around us depend on us each day. Often, in the hectic schedule of life and leadership, we don't take the time to truly connect with those around us. Likely, everyone reading this passage is guilty of prioritizing their "job" from time to time. Remember not only to take care of yourself but also to remind those within your organization to prioritize their family. A focused and passionate team will always outperform a tired and stressed-out group.

Change constantly happens, sometimes this is positive and predictable, and other times it's not. Focus on your attitude and what you can control!

How will you be remembered?

When was the last time you felt great about something you accomplished with the help of others? When individuals truly unite around the common good, it's amazing how quickly we forget about our differences. People need people. Community is defined as "a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals" (Oxford). Community is where great things happen – a small idea can unite an entire region or nation. It's too easy to get focused on our daily leadership list of "must-do's" and lose focus on what we can do. Be the person that, decades from now, others remember for who you are – not the title you had.

When was the last time you did something just for the "common good" of your community? No matter how small the act might seem, take advantage of your opportunities to quietly give back to others.
