Two Questions

Are you a me or we leader?

"Me People" versus "We People" - who would you prefer to work with? As a leader, you receive both credit and blame. In the end, you probably don't deserve as much of either as you get. A leader's role in a highly effective team is to use your skills and abilities to ensure everyone else on the team is successful. Consider the people in your life who have achieved sustainable success. Did they always need to be the center of attention? Likely not. They understand the value of a team, hard work, supporting others, and learning from mistakes.

Do you value learning?

In the last decade, there has been a significant amount of research and information focused on the topic of mindset, specifically a fixed mindset versus a growth mindset. We have a choice each day regarding our mindset. Sometimes this is difficult to remember as we get caught up in our hectic leadership and life schedules. Think about the joy you see displayed on the faces of a group of five-year-old children as you walk past them at the local park, school, or a community event. Every action is a new adventure filled with learning. Now think about the expressions on the faces of the adults you work with each day. Is the same energy and passion displayed? The answer is likely no. This isn’t because adults strive to live a stressful and unhappy life; it's because we lose our passion for learning. As a leader, look for daily opportunities to tap into the passion of those around you.
