Two Questions

Are you too “busy” being busy?

Leadership involves more than just action—it also requires reflection and thought. Ineffective leaders often fail to spend necessary time reflecting on their work. "Never go out to meet trouble. If you just sit still, nine cases out of ten, someone will intercept it before it reaches you." This quote by Calvin Coolidge highlights the significance of thoughtful and deliberate leadership. However, for this strategy to succeed, the leader must prioritize developing the individual capabilities of all team members.

Think about this… Before intervening in the next perceived crisis within your organization, take a step back to determine if you really are the person who should be solving this problem.

How do you define success?

Culture, trust, teamwork, and mission are four concepts of leadership referenced in millions of leadership books and articles. However, if these are so common, why is it so easy to lose focus on these areas?

What is your focus? Short-term wins or long-term success? When thinking about your decision-making and planning as a leader, what drives you? In the hectic and unpredictable daily schedule, your tendency is likely to address the most pressing short-term issues and then move on to the next. While in some cases this approach is unavoidable, in many cases we would be much better off thinking about the long-term impact of these decisions. Your core beliefs, mission statement, and vision statement can be "feel-good" statements you create and hang on the wall, or they can be true reminders of what is important and guide the long-term success of your organization.

How do you define success? If you can't answer this question, then someone else is defining it for you.

Two Thoughts

Do this.

Watch this before you address conflict.
